Greek Ideals
The western civilization we know of today is heavily influenced by Greek Myth's. Some of the examples of influence in western society are, science, democracy, philosophy, art, and architecture. In the western society our science has been majorly influenced by Greek myths. One of the examples of this is the Greek math and science matition Pythagoras. He is to thank for the Pythagoras theorem. He is also to thank for his revolutionary advancements in astronomy, and the property of harmony in the universe. Another example to thank is Democritus. He is the reason we have atomic science, and he discovered the atom. He was one of the founders of the math study of geometry, the math of shapes of the earth.
One aspect of western society that has been majorly influenced by Greek Myths is our democracy. The origin of democracy lies in Greece, particularly Athens. In 594 BC a poet named Solon was elected as the first archon, a position similar to Prime minister, but an archon is elected annually and has executive and judicial power. Solon created the basis for political change in Athens. Athenian democracy was formed as a result of continuous political reorganizations, and literally means “power of the people”. Our existing government system is a democracy, powered by the citizens of America through the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial power. (Or at least that’s what the government wants us to believe.)
Philosophy is yet another facet that has been greatly affected by Greek Myths in our western society. The most influential Greek philosophers were Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. (They’re so famous even auto correct knows their names). Socrates is considered one of the founders of Western philosophy and was a source of inspiration for Plato and Aristotle. Plato is known as one of the most influential philosophers in western society. Aristotle valued knowledge gained through the senses and set the basis for the scientific method, but his philosophy was immensely important for leading the Western World with a logical way of thinking. Modern philosophy, as well as modern science, has traces of their works and inventions all over.
Art of ancient Greece has an astronomical enormous influence on culture on a variety countries from ancient times to the time this was written. There are three basic ways to categorise of Greek art that associate with historical time sessions of common names. These are the Archaic (700 - 480 BC), the vintage (480 - 323 BC) and the Hellenistic (323 – 31 BC) periods. The main types of Greek art are sculpture ideas, pottery designs, coin styles and architecture.
